Myth, Legend
As a foal, lounged around fires late at night, he’d heard the stories of myth and legend. Stories that became more sinister as he grew into his teens. Alas, such were folk legends: A colossus! A giant! A beast! Here to stalk, to ravage, to destroy!
But as he grew into a young stallion barely did the myth cross his mind, let alone be spoken of, until that day finally arrived; running wild in the woodlands he was sure he’d caught a glimpse of a human head, the size of a stable, peering up over the trees.
“The colossus! The giant! The beast!” he neighed wildly as he galloped past the stables. Only, how the others chortled, manically shaking their heads, some even falling to the earth and rolling on their back. So he simply retreated, away from mockery, into the outskirts of the farm.
It was from there, hemmed in between tree and bush, hidden from the stables, that he silently watched over them, waiting for the myth to come. And sure enough, as the moon reached it’s peak the colossus arrived. Only where was this monster of his youth? The great destroyer of his teens? For how magnificent this towering beast was! So friendly, so kind, so full of grace!
Kneeling down before them, his teeth bright in the sharp glow of the moon, each of them came, one by one from the stable, and gently began their journey away from everything they’d known, onto a new plane where the grass rose up each morning in diamond dew.
