London Zoo Illustrated

London Zoo Illustrated is a limited first edition (exclusive to 250 copies) silkscreen print using oil-based inks onto 280gsm recycled paper. The prints measure 514 x 580mm and look perfect mounted to fit a standard 70x70cm frame. Each print comes signed, numbered and embossed with the ZSL London Zoo logo.

25% of the sale of each print will be donated to the Zoological Society of London (ZSL). ZSL is made up of a unique combination of scientific research, worldwide conservation and outstanding educational facilities at ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo. ZSL’s mission is to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats.

Nine months ago I started drawing London Zoo. Starting with the gorillas and a few spectators, this rapidly became, what is now, an accurate detailed map of the zoo. When you look closely you’ll be able to see every animal you can find there. Each one of the hundreds of individually drawn people is different to the next, each with their own personality. As you can imagine after months and months of drawing and studying, I now know the zoo like the back of my hand!

ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo is a registered charity in England and Wales No. 208728

Over 100 artists have taken part in an exhibition in New York as a part of an ambitious collaborative sculpture project featuring Gerald, a paper dog.

Hundreds of ‘Gerald the Lazerian Dog’ sculptures – which are made from up to 88 paper components – have been customized by artists for the Gerald & James exhibition by LAZERIAN.

The exhibition and related book launch will be shown at New York Design Week 2013 in partnership with British bespoke paper-maker, James Cropper.

Artists from the UK, USA, Argentina, Australia and South Korea and received a Gerald with their only instruction to put their own spin on the emerging design classic.

The Gerald and James exhibition and book launch will take place during New York Design Week 2013 at 60 Reade, off Broadway between Thursday 16 – Sunday 19 May 2013

My past 20 Facebook cover photos. Practically all past illustrations, thought they looked quite nice together.

‘London Zoo Illustrated’ will be available to view and purchase as a limited edition (only 250 copies) screen print from April 2013.

Further progress on my ZSL project. The final piece will come out square, so I’m about 2/3rds of the way finished. This section so far is A0 actual size. It’s pretty big!

David Ryan Robinson’s Fantasy Map of London

David Ryan Robinson doesn’t want to be known just as the map guy. Which is kind of difficult when you spend six months of your life drawing a huge A2 (that’s 23-and-a-half by 16-and-a-half inches) map of London.

It was fall 2011, and Robinson had just arrived in London. Like many young professionals, Robinson realised that the UK capital was the place to establish a firm career path. Robinson had always been into drawing, and he never got out of it. He graduated from university in June, taking a degree in art, and he knew that to advance in the creative industries he ought to move to London. “I’d only been a couple of times before,” he points out, on day trips and vacations.
